Overview

Notes From the Author

This book started with a single image: three women standing in their childhood kitchen, not speaking, each one holding a version of the truth the others couldn't bear to hear. I spent three months reading family systems theory and research on intergenerational trauma before I wrote a single scene. None of that research appears directly in the book. All of it is there underneath — the way a foundation is invisible once the building stands.

Three sisters return to their childhood home after their mother's sudden death, each carrying secrets they swore to take to the grave. But the house remembers everything — and someone is making sure they do too.

Oldest sister Diane has built her life on control. Middle sister Renee has built hers on forgetting. Youngest sister Cass has never been allowed to remember. When their mother dies suddenly and the three women return to the house they all escaped as soon as they could, the silence between them is twenty years thick. What We Buried is a domestic thriller about the architecture of family secrets — how they are constructed, maintained, and eventually weaponized. About the conspiracy of silence that keeps families together even when it should tear them apart.

Family secrets done right. The three sisters feel so real — their dynamic, the unspoken resentments, the way they protect each other even when they shouldn't. I was gripping my Kindle the entire time.

Creepy and atmospheric and so hard to put down. The house itself almost feels like a character. I'd love a sequel following the youngest sister.

Read it in two evenings. The reveal in chapter eighteen broke my heart. Perfect domestic thriller — tense, intimate, and completely unpredictable.

The writing in this book is something special. Every sentence is doing double work — telling you what happened and showing you what it cost. I finished it at 2am and just sat there.

A slow start but by chapter five I was completely hooked. The middle sister is one of the most complex characters I've read in domestic fiction — I hated her and understood her completely at the same time.

Good thriller, well-written. The atmosphere was genuinely unsettling. I guessed the main twist early but the emotional resolution still landed. Would read more from this author.
